  • Viewed from the shore of the St. Lawrence River in Alexandria Bay, New York, historic Boldt Castle on Heart Island is quite a site to behold. A combination of medieval and vistorian design, George Boldt began construction of the various buildings in 1900. Construction halted abruptly in 1904 with the death of George's wife, Louise Kehrer Boldt. The property fell into ruin over the next 73 years, until it was acquired by the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority, who undertook the task of restoring and improving the property. Work is ongoing and all of the fees collected for the use of the property go to help pay for that work.
